Have a Field Day!

Discover and enjoy the Urdenbacher Kämpe nature reserve!
A floodplain in the middle of a metropolitan area: the river wetlands along this uncontrolled stretch of the Rhine are a real rarity. Over many centuries, people and nature have adapted to the regular flooding.

Old meadow orchards, magical riverscapes, rare wet meadows, and the remains of an ancient riparian forest provide a home for highly specified plant and animal species. At the heart of the nature reserve lies Haus Bürgel, a former Roman fort later used as a manor house and farm that today houses a working horse stud, a Roman Museum, and the Haus Bürgel Eco Centre.

Follow the colour-coded nature trails to discover the nature reserve and be prepared to learn some surprising facts from the information panels and audio pods along the way. Benches provided throughout the reserve invite you to contemplate the beauty of the landscape.

Enjoy!
