On the Tracks of Nature

Format: Walk

Suitable for: Families, children (age 6–10), school groups

Available in: German, English

Description: The Urdenbacher Kämpe wetlands are a unique landscape that has been shaped by the River Rhine and by people for many centuries. On this walk we're going to become detectives on the hunt for clues – about nature. Look closely to discover tracks at the path's edge, or lift your eyes to see marks in the landscape that are difficult to miss. There are so many surprising discoveries to make!

Itinerary: This circular walk covers approx. 4 km and starts at the car park of the caravan campsite in Monheim-Baumberg. We will walk to the ferry crossing on the River Rhine and back again. Eight stops along the way provide opportunities to learn some surprising facts about tracks and tracking, the river landscape, and wetland animal and plant life. A combination of games and tasks, tracking assignments, and stories and facts encourages children to take an active role and experience the wetlands with all their senses.

Please be sure to wear stout shoes and bring waterproof clothing. As an accompanying adult please bring something to drink and a small snack for your children.
